The Story and History of Saint Pantaleon
The story and history of Saint Pantaleon. Pantaleon, also known as Panteleimon or Panteleon, was born in c275 at Nicomedia Bithynia, a Roman province of Turkey in the northwest of Asia Minor.  He was a great doctor during the joint reigns of two Roman Emperors. The Roman Emperor Maximian, who was Roman Emperor for the Western Empire from 286 to 305 and Diocletian (r.284-305). who mounted some of the fiercest persecutions of the early Church especially in the East of the Empire. Pantaleon, who was a Christian, became so famous as a doctor that he was summoned to the court of the Roman Emperor Maximian to become the Emperor's personal physician. Christianity was a highly dangerous religion to follow during this period and Pantaleon abandoned his faith, corrupted by the wealth and beliefs of the court. He then came under the influence of the priest Hermolaus and reverted back to Christianity and donated all of his wealth to the poor. As a skilled physician he went about healing the sick without fee or reward. His success as a doctor attracted the jealousy of other physicians who denounced him as a Christian. He was put to torture but refused to renounce his faith. He bound to an olive tree, with a nail driven through his body and then beheaded.
